Golden, buttery, and perfectly moist, this Dutch oven cornbread is the perfect companion to soups, chili, barbecue, and hearty comfort-food meals.
Ingredients
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1 cup flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk
- 2 eggs
- 1/3 cup melted butter, plus extra for brushing
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F.
- Lightly butter a Simmer Down Cookware Dutch oven.
- In a bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, and melted butter.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients until just mixed. Do not overmix.
- Pour batter into the prepared Dutch oven.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Brush the top with melted butter while warm for extra flavor and shine.
- Serve warm.
