Tender chicken, rich creamy broth, and soft homemade dumplings make this Dutch oven classic pure comfort food.
Ingredients
Chicken & Broth
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 3 carrots, sliced
- 3 celery stalks, sliced
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 6 cups chicken broth
- 3 cups cooked shredded chicken
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Dumplings
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk
- 4 tablespoons melted butter
Instructions
- Melt butter in a 7-quart Simmer Down Cookware Dutch oven over medium heat.
- Add onion, carrots, celery, and garlic. Cook until softened and fragrant, about 6–8 minutes.
- Pour in chicken broth and stir in shredded chicken. Season with salt and black pepper.
- Bring to a gentle simmer.
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Stir in milk and melted butter until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Drop spoonfuls of dumpling dough directly into the simmering broth.
- Cover with the lid and cook for 15 minutes without lifting the lid.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot.
