Dutch Oven Chicken & Dumplings

Tender chicken, rich creamy broth, and soft homemade dumplings make this Dutch oven classic pure comfort food.

Ingredients

Chicken & Broth

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 carrots, sliced
  • 3 celery stalks, sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 3 cups cooked shredded chicken
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Dumplings

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 4 tablespoons melted butter

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a 7-quart Simmer Down Cookware Dutch oven over medium heat.
  2. Add onion, carrots, celery, and garlic. Cook until softened and fragrant, about 6–8 minutes.
  3. Pour in chicken broth and stir in shredded chicken. Season with salt and black pepper.
  4. Bring to a gentle simmer.
  5. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Stir in milk and melted butter until just combined. Do not overmix.
  7. Drop spoonfuls of dumpling dough directly into the simmering broth.
  8. Cover with the lid and cook for 15 minutes without lifting the lid.
  9. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot.
