Old Fashioned Peach Cobbler

Sweet, bubbling peaches baked beneath a rich buttery cobbler topping make this Dutch oven dessert the kind of recipe everyone asks for again.

Ingredients

Peach Filling

  • 8 cups fresh peaches, peeled and sliced
(or frozen peaches, thawed and drained)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • Pinch of salt

Cobbler Topping

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional for Serving

  • Vanilla ice cream
  • Fresh whipped cream

Instructions

Prepare the Dutch Oven

Preheat oven to 350°F.

Lightly butter the inside of a 5-quart or 7-quart Simmer Down Cookware Dutch oven.

Make the Peach Filling

In a large bowl, combine the peaches, granulated sugar, brown sugar, lemon juice, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, cornstarch, and salt.

Mix gently until evenly coated, then pour the peach filling into the Dutch oven.

Make the Cobbler Topping

In another bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.

Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Stir in the milk and vanilla just until combined. Do not overmix.

Drop spoonfuls of the topping evenly over the peaches, leaving a few small openings for the peaches to bubble through while baking.

Bake

Bake uncovered for 50–60 minutes, until the peach filling is bubbling and the cobbler topping is golden brown.

If the topping browns too quickly, loosely place the Dutch oven lid over the top during the final 10–15 minutes of baking.

Finish and Serve

Allow the cobbler to rest for 10–15 minutes before serving.

Serve warm directly from the Dutch oven with vanilla ice cream or fresh whipped cream.

Enjoy!
