Sunday Morning Cinnamon Rolls

Soft, buttery cinnamon rolls baked warm and golden make the perfect breakfast or comforting dessert. Filled with rich cinnamon sugar and topped with creamy vanilla icing.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Cinnamon Filling

  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

Vanilla Icing

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons softened cream cheese (optional for richer icing)

Instructions

Prepare the Dough

In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let stand for about 5 minutes until foamy.

Stir in the melted butter, eggs, and salt.

Gradually add the flour and mix until a soft dough forms.

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Place the dough into a lightly greased bowl, cover, and allow to rise for about 1–1 1/2 hours until doubled in size.

Prepare the Filling

In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar and cinnamon.

Roll and Fill the Dough

Punch down the dough and roll it into a large rectangle about 1/4-inch thick.

Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough.

Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly across the surface.

Starting from the long side, tightly roll the dough into a log.

Slice into 12 even rolls.

Prepare the Dutch Oven

Lightly butter the inside of a Simmer Down Cookware Dutch oven.

Arrange the cinnamon rolls evenly inside, leaving a little room between each roll.

Cover loosely and allow the rolls to rise another 30–45 minutes until puffy.

Bake

Preheat oven to 350°F.

Bake uncovered for 25–35 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.

If the tops brown too quickly, loosely place the Dutch oven lid over the top during the final 10 minutes.

Make the Icing

Whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla, and optional cream cheese until smooth.

Finish and Serve

Allow the cinnamon rolls to cool slightly.

Drizzle generously with icing while still warm.

Serve directly from the Dutch oven.

Enjoy!
